Customizing Exercises

WarmVox allows advanced users to customize exercises beyond the standard settings. This guide explains how to create personalized vocal training routines tailored to your specific needs.

Why Customize Exercises?

Customizing exercises can help you:

  • Target specific vocal challenges
  • Create specialized warm-up routines
  • Develop exercises for particular musical styles
  • Adapt to your unique vocal characteristics
  • Create progressive training programs

Exercise Parameters

Each exercise type has parameters that can be customized:

Breathing Exercise Parameters

  • Inhalation Duration: How long to breathe in
  • Hold Duration: How long to hold the breath (if applicable)
  • Exhalation Duration: How long to breathe out
  • Rest Duration: Pause between breath cycles
  • Repetitions: Number of breath cycles
  • Pattern: Sequence of breath types (e.g., deep, shallow, staccato)

Scale Exercise Parameters

  • Starting Pitch: The base note of the scale
  • Scale Pattern: The sequence of intervals
  • Tempo: Speed in beats per minute
  • Rhythm Pattern: Note duration pattern
  • Direction: Ascending, descending, or both
  • Range: How far the scale extends
  • Repetitions: How many times to repeat the pattern

Creating Custom Exercises

Method 1: Modify Existing Exercises

The simplest way to create custom exercises:

  1. Open an existing exercise that's similar to what you want
  2. Tap the Settings (gear) icon
  3. Adjust the parameters to your preference
  4. Tap Save as Custom to create a new exercise
  5. Name your custom exercise and add optional notes

Method 2: Exercise Builder (Premium Feature)

For complete customization:

  1. From the home screen, tap Custom Exercises
  2. Tap the + button to create a new exercise
  3. Select the exercise type (Breathing or Scale)
  4. Use the builder interface to set all parameters
  5. Preview your exercise using the Test button
  6. Save and name your custom exercise

Advanced Customization Options

Custom Breathing Patterns

Create complex breathing patterns by combining different breath types:

  1. In the Exercise Builder, select Advanced Pattern
  2. Tap Add Segment to add each part of the pattern
  3. For each segment, set:
    • Breath type (deep, shallow, staccato, etc.)
    • Durations for inhale, hold, exhale, and rest
    • Repetitions for this segment
  4. Arrange segments in the desired order
  5. Set how many times to repeat the entire pattern

Custom Scale Patterns

Create unique scale patterns beyond the standard options:

  1. In the Exercise Builder, select Custom Pattern
  2. Use the piano interface to select notes in your pattern
  3. Set the rhythm for each note (or apply a uniform rhythm)
  4. Choose transposition behavior (how the pattern shifts keys)
  5. Set range limits to keep the exercise within your vocal range

Rhythm Customization

Apply specific rhythmic patterns to scale exercises:

  1. In the Scale Exercise Builder, select Custom Rhythm
  2. Use the rhythm editor to create note duration patterns
  3. Apply different articulations (staccato, legato, accents)
  4. Add rests between notes or phrases
  5. Set tempo changes within the exercise

Exercise Sequences

Create ordered sequences of exercises for structured practice sessions:

  1. From the Custom Exercises screen, tap Sequences
  2. Tap Create New Sequence
  3. Add exercises to the sequence in your preferred order
  4. Set the duration or repetitions for each exercise
  5. Add optional rest periods between exercises
  6. Save and name your sequence

Sharing Custom Exercises (Premium Feature)

Share your custom exercises with other WarmVox users:

  1. Open the custom exercise you want to share
  2. Tap the Share button
  3. Choose to generate a shareable link or export as a file
  4. Send the link or file to other WarmVox users
  5. Recipients can import your exercise into their app

Importing Custom Exercises

Add exercises created by others to your library:

  1. When you receive a WarmVox exercise file or link
  2. Open the link or file on your device
  3. WarmVox will detect the exercise and offer to import it
  4. Review the exercise details
  5. Tap Import to add it to your custom exercises

Tips for Effective Custom Exercises

  • Start Simple: Begin by making small modifications to existing exercises
  • Test Thoroughly: Always try your custom exercises before adding them to your regular routine
  • Progressive Design: Create series of exercises that gradually increase in difficulty
  • Document Purpose: Add notes about what each custom exercise is designed to achieve
  • Regular Updates: Revisit and refine your custom exercises as your voice develops
